Everybody needs a beach vacation.. even if it’s just for the day! Here are five beaches everyone should visit while in Prince Edward Island:
Panmure Island Beach is a beautiful stretch of white sand that spans the coast of the island. It’s a sight to be seen by visitors and locals alike! Located in St Mary’s Bay, the water access on both sides of this island makes for an amazing view at all times of day. The sand dunes are perfect for picnics or relaxing while taking in the views from atop them! At the end of the beach, you’ll find Prince Edward Island’s oldest wooden lighthouse which you can visit freely!
Greenwich Beach is the modern adventurer’s dream! This area boasts 10,000 years of historical significance Many artifacts have been discovered in its rich and ever changing landscape. The area is home to rich cultural history regarding the Mi’kmaq and Acadian peoples. It even has an interpretation centre which hosts a variety of historical exhibits and activities. If learning isn’t your goal and you just want to see serene landscapes, then get ready for the biggest sand dunes on the island! Although the path to Greenwich is less traveled than others in Prince Edward Island, it is more than worth it once you’re immersed in it’s everlasting beauty.
Blooming Point Beach runs about 2.6 miles and is located on the north shore of Prince Edward Island. It has no facilities but don’t let that deter you! With the combination of the soft white sandy beach and the ocean view, you’re guaranteed to be mesmerized by the scenic views. Plus it’s pet friendly! So bring your sidekicks and let them enjoy the sprawling beach and the gentle waves. Just be wary of stepping on the marram grass as it is essential to the local ecosystem!
Basin Head Beach is considered to be a true gem of Prince Edward Island. Located in Basin Head provincial park, It features geographically unique sand that “sings” when stepped on due to the high silica content that is heated under the sun. Cause of this, It is famously referred to as the “singing sands”. A narrow channel running to a small inland pond divides Basin Head Beach. Swimming is permitted but monitored by a lifeguard due to the changing tides in the channel. When planning your visit to the area, make sure not to exclude this nine mile, world famous beach!
King’s Castle Beach is located in the provincial park of the same name and situated along Murray River. It’s the perfect place to spend the day with the family with all the amenities it harbours such as; a large playground with swings and picnic tables, washrooms, and a sheltered kitchen/snackbar. It also features a large, open green space & a series of story book character statues for the children to interact with. Pets are also permitted as long as they are leashes. This beach definitely is the most family friendly in this list!
